Utilities

essential

Welcome to my selection of laboratory equipment!
In this section, I've decided to gather a series of tools, equipment, and small items that I use daily (or almost daily) in my workshop. These are products that I've purchased personally over time, often after extensive research or after trying out less satisfactory alternatives.

The common thread is simple: they are tools that I find useful, well-made, practical, and – above all – that have simplified my life in the maintenance and repair of tube equipment, such as old radios, amplifiers, and similar. Some are essential, others perhaps more “niche,” but all have earned a permanent place on my workbench.

I want to clarify that this is not a sponsored page, nor disguised advertising. I don't earn anything whether you buy them or not. I simply recommend them because I use them myself and find them valuable – and if they can be useful to other enthusiasts too, even better.

I hope this small collection can be a useful resource for those setting up their own laboratory, for those looking for something specific, or even just for those curious to discover some additional tools.

Siglent SDS1202X-E Digital Oscilloscope

Siglent SDS1202X-E Digital Oscilloscope: A Versatile Choice for Your Electronics Lab The Siglent SDS1202X-E digital oscilloscope is an excellent choice for anyone needing a versatile and high-performing instrument in their electronics lab. With a bandwidth of 200 MHz and a sampling rate of up to 1 GSa/s, this device can handle a wide range of applications, from repairing tube audio equipment to diagnosing more complex circuits.

Key Features:

7 Mpts memory depth per channel: Allows detailed signal acquisition, enabling in-depth analysis without loss of information.
7-inch display: Offers a clear and detailed view of waveforms, facilitating data interpretation.
Advanced trigger functions: Includes modes such as edge, slope, pulse width, and others, improving signal analysis accuracy.
Integrated serial bus decoding: Supports protocols such as I²C, SPI, UART, CAN, and LIN, making working with serial communications more efficient.
Users particularly appreciate the excellent value for money of this oscilloscope. A review on Amazon highlights how the performance offered is comparable to that of higher-end models, emphasizing the competitive pricing.

It is important to note that some units produced before October 2017 may have issues with probe compensation. However, versions released after that date have incorporated improvements to resolve these inconveniences. Therefore, it is recommended to check the serial number at the time of purchase to ensure you are getting an updated version.

In summary, the Siglent SDS1202X-E stands out for its advanced features and ease of use, making it ideal for both professionals and electronics enthusiasts. Its ability to combine high performance with an affordable price makes it a valuable addition to any lab.

Differential probe

The Micsig DP10013 is a high-voltage differential probe designed to measure signals up to 1,300 V with a bandwidth of 100 MHz. It is an essential instrument not only for those working on switching power supplies or motor control systems, but also – and I would say especially – for those involved in the repair and diagnosis of tube equipment.

Anyone working with vintage radios, tube amplifiers, and the like knows that the voltages involved can easily exceed 300, 400, even 600 volts. In these cases, using traditional probes is risky and inaccurate. The DP10013, on the other hand, allows for safe measurements even in the most critical circuit points, maintaining galvanic isolation between the input and oscilloscope, and ensuring reliable readings.

Key Features:
Bandwidth: 100 MHz
Selectable attenuation: 50x and 500x
Maximum measurable differential voltage: 1,300 V
Power supply: via 5V USB port

It is compatible with most oscilloscopes equipped with a 1 MΩ input, so it integrates perfectly with instruments such as the Siglent SDS1202X-E (with which it forms an excellent pairing). Some users report that the input cables can be a bit stiff or cumbersome in certain contexts, but nothing that compromises usability.

Overall, the Micsig DP10013 is a very smart purchase for those working with high voltage and unreferenced ground signals, as is often the case in the world of vacuum tubes. If you work with this type of electronics, it's a tool that shouldn't be missing from your bench.

Dual Bias Tester

The 8-pin Dual Bias Current Probes Tester is a device designed to accurately measure bias current in a variety of power tubes, including EL34, KT88, 6L6, 6V6, 6550, and KT66. This equipment is particularly useful for enthusiasts and technicians who want to optimize the performance of tube amplifiers, ensuring accurate bias adjustment.

Key Features:

Extended compatibility: Suitable for a wide range of power tubes, making it versatile for different amplifier models.
Accurate measurement: Equipped with a current meter with a range up to 100 mA, it facilitates clear and accurate readings.
Quality construction: Uses a ceramic socket with gold-plated pins for enhanced durability and reliable connections.
Ease of use: The intuitive design allows for a simple connection between the valve and the amplifier, simplifying the measurement process.

Users appreciated the instrument's accuracy and ease of use. However, some feel the price is relatively high compared to other similar products on the market. Overall, the 8-pin Dual Bias Current Probes Tester is an effective solution for those who want to accurately monitor and adjust bias current in power tubes, helping to maintain optimal performance of tube amplifiers.

Its hammer function makes it suitable for a variety of materials, while the ergonomic design ensures comfort during use. It's important to note that this model is sold as “body only,” meaning batteries and a charger must be purchased separately.

Sirena NEDIS DUMSS20WT

The NEDIS DUMSS20WT is a dummy security siren designed to act as a visual deterrent against unwanted intrusions. Made of durable plastic, it features a professional design that mimics a real alarm siren. It is equipped with a continuous flashing LED, powered by batteries, which enhances its deterrent effect. The IP44 protection makes it suitable for outdoor use, resisting splashes of water and solid objects larger than 1 mm. Its dimensions are 19.8 x 9.8 x 28 cm and its weight is 510 grams.

DREAME H15 Pro Vacuum Mop

In a lab, as you know, there's a natural tendency towards mess. Between soldering, cut wires, stray tin solder rolling around, and dust getting everywhere… keeping the floor in decent condition is a constant challenge. That's why I decided to try this manual floor cleaner with a built-in spray tank – and I must say, it quickly became part of my routine.
Compact, easy to handle, and no-frills, it allows you to quickly clean the floor without even needing to get out a bucket, mop, and a thousand other things. The spray mechanism is simple and effective: fill the tank with water (perhaps with a drop of detergent), spray directly where needed, and off you go. Ideal for dry dirt, small debris, welding dust, and even micro-solder residues, which otherwise risk ending up everywhere.
The thing I appreciate most? It's always ready to go. No wires, no batteries, no excuses. When I need a quick clean before or after working, it does its job without wasting time.
It's a simple object, but useful. It doesn't perform miracles – it's not an industrial machine – but for those who care about their workspace, it helps to work better, with more order, and (yes!) with more pleasure.
In short: it's not a lab accessory in the strict sense, but once you try it, you'll understand it should be.
