ELROG

ELROG was founded in Lüneburg in 1986 as a German electronic tube company. Its founder, Klaus Schaffernicht, had worked at Telefunken in Ulm; the business made special-purpose tubes and audio valves. Production later took place in Hagenow, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. Following the original company's financial difficulties, Deutsche Elektronenröhren Manufaktur GmbH, founded by Thomas Mayer, bought the plant, machinery, expertise and brand in 2016. It continued to make ELROG valves on the Hagenow production line, with its corporate headquarters in Lindau. The name printed on a tube thus spans two distinct corporate phases, which must be dated before an example is attributed.

The later catalogue chiefly comprised directly heated output triodes and full-wave rectifiers. Models included the ER300B, ER211 and ER845, along with the molybdenum-plate ER300B-Mo, ER242 and ER284; power-supply rectifiers included the ER274A, ER274B, ER5U4G and ER5Z3. These designations distinguish devices with different functions and electrical characteristics, rather than mere spellings of the same tube. In 2026 the company announced a permanent end to production and a planned liquidation by 31 December; it also reported remaining stock of some types. A tube still offered for sale may therefore come from inventory without implying that manufacture has continued.
