History
Kelly Tube Company was an American name in the radio-valve market, with a business address in New York. In 1929 its range included types 401A, 422 and 440; commercial activity is established in February and May. In October that year it used 143 West 45th Street. The Kelly name is also associated with 57 Dey Street, without sufficient evidence to establish the chronological order of the two addresses.
The variety of designations confirms a range of types but does not demonstrate that every manufacturing operation took place in-house. The actual factory and the division between manufacture, outside supply and rebranding remain to be established for individual specimens. Full incorporation and closing dates are also undetermined. Kelly Tube Company must be distinguished from Kelly & Shiel in Dublin and Kelly Acoustics in Enfield, similarly named businesses with different identities.
