RFT is a collective name for the radio and electronics industry of East Germany, not the name of one valve factory. Products and documents from several publicly owned enterprises, the VEBs, circulated under this label; they worked in equipment, telecommunications and components. An RFT marking on a tube therefore identifies a broad commercial and industrial context but cannot, on its own, establish which plant made it.

Funkwerk Erfurt, Röhrenwerk Neuhaus and other specialized works are among the names that recur in tube history. Erfurt also retains a historical connection with earlier Telefunken activity; succession at a factory, however, does not make the brands of every period interchangeable. Receiving valves, technical tubes and television components passed through administrative structures that changed after the war. A plant code, where one is present, may be more precise than the umbrella brand alone.

RFT therefore has to be understood on two levels. The first is the visible name, useful for recognizing an East German product; the second is the actual network of plants and companies that designed or made the individual types. In archival records, the RFT label, the name of a VEB and a reference to a predecessor must remain distinguishable. Only then can a specific tube be linked to a documented place and phase of production.
