PY500A tube: datasheets and technical data

Explore available pinout, electrical data and related types for the PY500A vacuum tube.

3 PDF datasheets available

The PY500A is a booster diode for the timebase circuits of colour television receivers. The Philips sheet places it in deflection circuits and permits one-way replacement of the PY500 in existing circuits; this does not claim reciprocal interchangeability without checks. It has a nine-contact Magnoval base and a cathode connection on top of the envelope.

The cathode is indirectly heated and the heater is intended for a 300 mA series chain; Philips specifies a nominal 42 V. The same sheet requires a minimum external resistance between each heater pin and the mains terminals: 100 Ω with 220 V rms between heater and earth, or 50 Ω with 110 V. The hot resistance of other heaters in the chain may also contribute. This constraint matters when changing the order of tubes in a television without a mains transformer.

Philips gives design limits of 11 W plate dissipation, 440 mA average plate current and 1000 mA peak current. The provisional Telefunken sheet instead limits the peak to 800 mA, so a particular tube must be assessed against its manufacturer's data. Both give 5.6 kV as the negative peak plate-voltage limit and 7 kV as an absolute maximum; these ratings concern pulses no longer than 22% of the cycle and, in any case, 18 µs. The absolute maximum is not a normal operating value.

How to use the Valve Archive

EnryLab Valve Archive allows you to search for PDF datasheets and technical documentation by entering the exact code of a vacuum tube. Enter codes such as EL84, ECC83, 12AX7, 6L6GC, or 300B to view variants, manufacturers, and documents available in the technical archive. The search uses exact matches, thus avoiding partial or irrelevant results and making it easier to find the correct datasheet.

Datasheet PDF and frequent searches

The most searched acronyms have dedicated and indexable pages, with clean URLs and linked documentation. You can start with frequent searches to quickly consult the most used valves in the audio, radio, and technical restoration fields.
